Tools & Tribes, Tim Ferriss explains the difference

Best selling author Tim Ferriss (two Rs two Ss) has helpfully recorded this video explaining the difference between his last two publications, Tools of Titans and Tribe of Mentors. Whilst they may seem similar in concept they are quite different reads. Both are summarised questions and answers from some of the worlds leading experts in their fields, entrepreneurs, athletes, actors, scientists and so on.

Tribe of Mentors
Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss.

Tools of Titans is derived mainly from Tim’s many podcast interviews on the Tim Ferriss show and covers a wide breadth of subjects and questions. This book also has some non interview sections where Tim gives some of his highly regarded advice on the Slow Carb Diet, improving sleep, deconstructing sports and more.

Tribe of Mentors on the other hand has a specific subset of questions asked to many people who have in the main never been interviewed by Tim.  These questions include:

  • If you could have one gigantic billboard, what would it say and why?
  • In the last five years what have you become better at saying No to?
  • What purchase of less than $100 in the last six months has had the most positive impact on your life?

Both are easy to pick up and read a random section from and come away feeling inspired or challenged in some way.  Either will bring you commuter credibility on the bus or train…

Other books by Tim include, The Four Hour Work Week, The Four Hour Chef and The Four Hour Body.
